A Warm Weather Wardrobe by Burts Bees
by Lacey Appolito
With warm weather on the horizon, I have spent more time than I'd like to admit perusing the internet for pieces to add to my daughter's spring wardrobe. I am ideally looking for pieces that are cute, comfortable, relatively inexpensive, and earth-friendly.
What exactly do I mean by earth-friendly and why does it matter anyway? Let me elaborate...
Baby's skin is thinner and more porous than adult skin, which makes your baby more susceptible to harmful substances. I learned this when I stumbled upon the Burts Bees Baby website, which as it turns out sells clothes that meet all of my requirements for my sweet little Evie's wardrobe.
What that Means for Baby
A baby's tender skin takes years to develop its protective quality, therefore it's more susceptible to the effects of harsh chemicals.
Not all organic cotton is created equal. Burts Bees cotton is combed to remove impurities and short, coarse fibers, then ring-spun to make smooth, high-quality yarn.
Harsh chemical processing can make conventional cotton fibers start to break down after just 20 washes. Burts Bees organic cotton can last 5 times long and gets softer with every wash. Burts Bees does not use the synthetic pesticides and fertilizers needed to grow conventional cotton, which means those harmful chemicals don't seep into our soil, water, and food.
The Global Organic Textile Standard is the standard for organic fibers, and it proves organic fabric is the real deal.
When I think of Burts Bees, the first thing that comes to mind is chapstick, but there is really so much more available than bath and skin care. The baby site includes the traditional items that we all know and love, but also features a wide selection of clothing for babies, toddlers, and kids, as well as nursery essentials.
Below you will find some of my favorite pieces for my almost two-year-old to give her some style points (and green points!) this warm weather season.
